I would like to take a moment and inform my traveling friends around the world to be aware and to take precautions regarding this virus that is spreading quite fast – Zika.
To the best of my knowledge, this is caused by mosquito bites. Suppose a mosquito does not transmit this virus, if the mosquito bites an infected individual then it will be transmitted into the mosquito. So far, this is not a concern in Canada because Canada does not have the mosquito which carries this virus.
It is quite scary because we can’t control these mosquitoes. I’m sure people who have traveled to warmer places will agree that mosquitoes are such a pain to get away from! There are so many and they just don’t want to leave you alone!!! How do we get rid of these mosquitoes in order to get rid of this virus??!!!
I’ve been seeing some pretty disturbing videos all day about newborn babies being affected by this virus and being born with a small head. I know this is definitely a concern for pregnant women right now who are living or traveling in affected areas.
I encourage everyone to be AWARE of this and educate yourselves a bit about this matter so you can take the proper precautions and also raise awareness in your communities.
I found a lot of information on this website and I believe this is the best place to find the proper information about this topic – http://www.cdc.gov/zika/index.html
So far, this has been affected in the following areas:
- Dominican Republic
- El Salvador
- French Guiana
- Puerto Rico
- Saint Martin
- U.S. Virgin Islands
- Cape Verde
